Durrant describes Van den Bergh defeat as a ‘heartbreaker’: “It was a very, very lucrative match and even now it's a tough loss to take”

Glen Durrant has admitted that his defeat in the World Matchplay semi-finals against Dimitri van den Bergh still pains him days on and that it is a ‘heartbreaker’.

Durrant who had reached that point the year prior was one of the favourites with bookmakers to lift the Phil Taylor Trophy but lost out to the eventual champion.

For the three-time Lakeside champion, he ranks it with two other defeats in the BDO and that in terms of spots in tournaments such as the Premier League, Grand Slam and World Series, it is a missed opportunity.
"It's a real heartbreaker," said Durrant in an interview with TeessideLive post tournament.

"Martin Adams semi-final at Lakeside, Scott Waites quarter final at Lakeside and Dimitri Van den Bergh semi-final, they're the three games that I will call the heartbreakers.

"Little did I know that the Martin Adams game was a good thing because I learnt I was a decent darts player.

The Scott Waites game took me a long long time to get over and I'll be really honest with you, this was such a missed opportunity. It's not going to happen again, I don't care what anyone says, where all the seeds are out: the bookies aren't often wrong and for a big part of last week I was the favourite. It's a real heartbreaker.

"I'm not motivated by money in the slightest: the winner of that would have got into the Grand Slam, the winner of that probably in all likelihood would get in the Premier League next year, potential World Series next year. It was a very, very lucrative match and even now it's a tough loss to take."
