Gian van Veen has spent the season emerging on the Development and Challenge Tour and the rising 20-year-old Dutch talent has turned it around after struggling.
"It's been a busy couple of months but I'm enjoying it. A couple of years ago I was playing like 65, 70, 75 averages and just struggling, I knew I had the game but it just didn't happen during the game. Then COVID came around and practiced more and played a lot of online tournaments which really helped my game. Then went to the tournaments and just clicked all of a sudden and my average has gone up every year. At the top now for my game at the minute," said Van Veen to Online Darts.
This has seen him win a Challenge Tour and now a Development Tour to put himself firmly in the mix as well as debuts on the ProTour and European Tour.
"Development Tour I missed the first weekend due to COVID, I'm still top 16 now so I'm sure to be in the World Youth and hopefully I get top 32. Challenge Tour won an event last time so made my debut on the ProTour and then Euro Tour."
But he has a pragmatic approach to future Q-School and joining the tour with school his main priority.
"I'm going into my final year at school now which is my priority so I will go to Q-School and the goal is to get my Tour Card but if it doesn't happen this year then maybe next year. It's not really my priority this year."
"It's tough but my school knows about it and I can arrange stuff so it's good."
