A host of qualifying tournaments for the
World Darts Championship are scheduled over the next few weeks. Two qualifiers are scheduled this weekend and Monday, with a total of four starting spots to be earned for the event at Alexandra Palace.
Japan is hosting the PDC Asian Championship this weekend. This tournament was organized for the first time last year and got Christian Perez as the winner then.
Perez is once again one of 48 competitors at the PDC Asian Championship this weekend. He faces competition from the likes of Kai Fan Leung, Royden Lam, Seigo Asada, Tomoya Goto, Haruki Muramatsu, Yuki Yamada, Lourence Ilagan, Paolo Nebrida, Reynaldo Rivera and Paul Lim.
The finalists of the PDC Asian Championship and the top-ranked Japanese dart player will receive an invitation to the World Darts Championship. The winner may also compete in the Grand Slam of Darts. Incidentally, Tomoya Goto, Lourence Ilagan, Paolo Nebrida and Reynaldo Rivera already managed to qualify for Ally Pally via the PDC Asian Tour.
If one of these players manages to reach the final of the PDC Asian Championship, the semi-finalists and any quarter-finalists who have not yet qualified will be considered. If two players qualify for one World Championship spot, the final position of these players on the PDC Asian Tour Order of Merit will be considered.
In addition to the qualifying tournament for Asian players, there is also a qualifier for darters from New Zealand. First, two more DPNZ tournaments will be played on Saturday and Sunday. Then the 16 best players from the DPNZ Tour will compete in the qualifying tournament that will take place on Monday. There, one spot for the World Darts Championship can be earned.
