The
German Darts Championship will be held between Friday 17 October - Sunday 19 October and is the final knocking of the 2025 season on the European Tour.
The tournament line-up features 32 players. Alongside the top 16 in the world rankings, the highest-ranked 16 players from the Pro Tour will also take part in this major event. Peter Wright is defending champion having won the event in its old slot of the ninth European Tour instead of being the final one this year.
He beat Luke Littler in the final 8-5 who does not return this year amid his recent 'boycott' of German events. Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Stephen Bunting and James Wade head up the line-up as seeds alongside Gerwyn Price, Josh Rock, Gary Anderson and defending champion Wright.
Albeit as ever with the European Tour, it is subject to withdrawals and often there are a few especially among the big name contingent. Since time of writing, Littler, Humphries, Van Gerwen and Anderson are all out.

Predictions
Samuel Gill, Head Editor for DartsNews.com keeps to type in regards to his prediction.
Have said it all year so why not change the habit of a lifetime eh. Martin Schindler for the win once again or Niko Springer who could rise to the fore in their home country.
See Luke Humphries as a potential other forerunner as well as Gian van Veen. Peter Wright in my view won't defend his title. Also pick Josh Rock as a potential champion.
Favourites:
*** Martin Schindler
** Luke Humphries, Gian van Veen
* Josh Rock, Ross Smith, Gerwyn Price
Oliver Ried, Editor for DartsNews.DE sees Luke Humphries as the winner albeit with some surprises.
The final European Tour event of the year is upon us, and the last decisions in the race for the European Darts Championship will be made. As of now, all the big names are entered, although I find it unlikely that Luke Littler and Gary Anderson will actually compete. That’s why I’m predicting Luke Humphries to win the German Darts Championship 2025. He’s back in good form and, interestingly, even recorded a higher average than Littler in the World Grand Prix final despite a 1–6 defeat. Humphries convinced me in that final, but he wasn’t there in the decisive moments. Still, for me, he is the big favorite.
Danny Noppert is as strong in 2025 as he hasn’t been for a long time. He more than deserved his first title of the year, so why not in Hildesheim? His performances at the World Grand Prix were more than convincing.
Other strong contenders in my eyes are Martin Schindler and Gerwyn Price. All three have had solid seasons and seem ready for the final event of the year.
One player flying under the radar is Wesley Plaisier. He’s finding his rhythm again after reaching three Pro Tour finals last year without a Tour Card. In recent events, he has produced some excellent averages, and if he can maintain that level, he’s capable of beating anyone. For me, he’s a real candidate for at least the semifinals. However, it will also be interesting to see how Stephen Bunting, Gian van Veen, and Jonny Clayton perform.

Nicolas Gayer, Editor for DartsNews.DE also sees some strange forerunners in Hildesheim.
The German Darts Championship will not only mark the conclusion of the 2025 European Tour season - it will also be the final event to take place in Hildesheim for the time being. The long-standing venue has not been included on the European Tour calendar for 2026, bringing an end to an era.
So why shouldn’t Hildesheim bid farewell with a maiden title for one of the sport’s rising stars? One name immediately comes to mind - a player who has left a real mark on this season but is still waiting for his first trophy: Wessel Nijman.
The young Dutchman has reached the final session at almost every third event this year, made two European Tour semifinals, and even reached a Players Championship final earlier this month before clinching his second floor title the very next day. As a freshly minted World Grand Prix debutant, Nijman is growing increasingly comfortable on stage, and the intimate setting in Hildesheim could play to his advantage.
Beyond that, I’m convinced Gerwyn Price will make a powerful statement. The Iceman is in top form and will be eager to erase the memory of his dramatic Grand Prix exit to Luke Littler with a strong showing in Germany. Gian van Veen, meanwhile, should once again be counted among the leading title contenders. Despite his early Grand Prix elimination, his record-breaking average there will have filled him with confidence - and he’ll be determined to add another title to his best ever PDC-season.

Pieter Verbeek, Editor for DartsNieuws.com also goes for an interesting winner.
The German Darts Championship has a rich history of producing unexpected winners. Players like Alan Norris, Devon Petersen and Ricardo Pietreczko have all lifted their first Euro Tour titles in Hildesheim, while Peter Wright shocked Luke Littler in last year’s final.
That trend could well continue this weekend — especially with teenage phenomenon Luke Littler absent from the field. This might be the perfect opportunity for Gian van Veen to finally add a Euro Tour title to his résumé. GVV The Giant posted the highest average ever recorded at the World Grand Prix last week, yet was knocked out in the opening round by Littler. The Dutchman continues to show flashes of outstanding form, and it feels like only a matter of time before that translates into a major result.
Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphries are also among the main favourites in Hildesheim. Both men impressed at the World Grand Prix but, just like Van Veen, fell victim to Littler’s dominance.
Stephen Bunting should not be underestimated either. The Bullet has already captured two Euro Tour titles in 2025 and looks as consistent as ever. Josh Rock also appears to be closing in on his first Euro Tour success, having already reached two finals this season. Danny Noppert, meanwhile, is enjoying an excellent autumn run — The Freeze made the semi-finals at the World Grand Prix, reached a final on the Euro Tour last month, and also reached a semi-final at a Players Championship event.
