Gurney on bringing back aggression of old after Cross incident: "It lit a fire inside of me"

Daryl Gurney sealed his first win at the World Grand Prix in four years in an eventful tie as he saw off Rob Cross 2-1 and not only extinguished his poor record in the tournament but also against 'Voltage'.

"I'm glad I got the win but to play Rob and beat him, I've no idea what my record is against him but it's horrific so for me to beat Rob, I'm really glad. After him beating me at the World's last year which was a proper game, so if it was per I'd have my hands up and say he's a better player.

"I owed him one and he is one of my bogey players especially when I am trying to make myself come back and get myself back into the top again. It's really hard for me.

This tie also saw Gurney point towards his manager at the break and he said that this was due to Cross getting angry about him and them having words post match which brought back his previous aggressive style which he calls 'Nasty Daryl'.

"Matt (his manager) keeps saying get nasty and to be honest I'm a dad of a four year old and I keep on saying the PDC has killed nasty Daryl because the fines are too expensive and then at the same time I've got a son and I've lost that way but whenever Rob was giving it off after the first set.

"He was getting angry about my manager for some reason, how many times he's beat me, he shouldn't be really giving off. I should be more angry than him and it lit a fire inside of me but it destroyed me in the second set."
