Vincent van der Voort has never needed long to find a punchline, and becoming a grandfather for the first time has not changed that.

The former PDC star revealed on the latest episode of Darts Draait Door that his son Kevin and Kevin’s partner have welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Milo van der Voort. The 50-year-old Dutchman became a grandfather on Monday, 18 May, and shared the news with clear pride before quickly slipping back into the dry humour darts fans know him for.
Presenter Damian Vlottes opened the podcast by greeting him with a laugh: “Welcome to a new episode, grandad.” Van der Voort did not hide the emotion of the moment, replying: “Yes, yes, I became a grandfather this morning. Everything went well. Wonderful, of course, lovely to experience.”
For a player who spent years as one of the most recognisable Dutch names on the PDC circuit, it marks a very different kind of milestone. Van der Voort officially ended his professional career at the start of 2024 due to ongoing health problems, but he has remained a familiar voice in the sport through media work, analysis and podcast appearances.

Van der Voort admits pride as son Kevin becomes a father

The arrival of Milo clearly hit home for Van der Voort, particularly because it also marked the moment his son became a parent. “That obviously makes me proud,” Van der Voort said. “It is still special when your son suddenly becomes a father himself.”
Kevin van der Voort also spent time in darts himself, meaning the family name has already carried beyond Vincent’s own career on the oche. For now, though, the newest Van der Voort is making headlines for rather different reasons.

As ever, Vincent did not let the sentiment sit for too long without undercutting it with a joke. “He is quite a rude little boy,” he said of Milo. “First of all, he wakes me up. Secondly, he just does not respond to anything. He really does whatever he feels like. There is still work to be done.”

Relief after overdue arrival

Behind the humour, Van der Voort also made clear that the family had felt some tension before the birth. Milo arrived a week after the expected due date, something that naturally brought a few anxious thoughts.
“That is, of course, the most important thing,” he said of mother and baby both being healthy. “Now and then you do think about everything that could go wrong. Especially when someone goes overdue, you are just happy that in the end everything goes well.”

Even the late arrival gave Van der Voort room for one more line. “It is clearly my son’s child,” he laughed. “If he arrives late, then you know enough.”
Van der Voort was known throughout his playing career for his pace, blunt honesty and sharp wit. Those traits have followed him into his post-playing life, where he remains one of the more candid Dutch voices around the sport.
Now, with Milo’s arrival, there is a new Van der Voort in the family. Whether he grows up anywhere near a dartboard remains a question for another day, but his grandfather has already found something to critique.
