Gerwyn Price has set himself only one goal during the World Series tournaments in New Zealand and Australia and that is to come home with "the double" of Down Under titles.
Last year, Price captured the title at the
New Zealand Darts Masters. That tournament is scheduled this weekend and 'The Iceman' is eager to defend his title there. A second title should follow next week in Wollongong at the New South Wales Darts Masters.
"I'm here to win both of the events and I'll be disappointed if I don't do that. I'm not down here to lose - I want to back this up and defend the title in New Zealand and hopefully win the one in Australia as well," says a determined Price to the PDC website.
The Welshman travelled a few days ago to New Zealand's Hamilton, where the tournament kicks off on Friday. Price, however, is having trouble acclimating. "I'm looking forward to defending the trophy and hopefully winning it. The travelling is quite tough sometimes and the jetlag is tough to get over this time but it's nice to come to different parts of the world, promoting the sport and meeting different fans."
The world number four faced the most difficult possible opponent in the draw for the New Zealand Darts Masters. He faces Australian crowd favourite Simon Whitlock.
"Those games are not easier, but you know how well you've got to play," Price concludes. "Simon's playing well so I need to be on my game, and sometimes knowing the other player can make it a little easier."
