The Premier League Darts return of Stephen Bunting in 2025 was a highly anticipated one. After a decade away from the big time, 'The Bullet' was one of the most in-form players of 2024, winning a first PDC major, reaching the PDC World Darts Championship semi-final and rising to 5th in the Order of Merit. Sadly for the fan's favourite however, his return so far has been a nightmare so far.
Seven weeks down and Bunting is still yet to add a point to board in the league table. Although his performances have been relatively solid for the most part, the brutal nature of the relentless week-in week-out format of the Premier League Darts has left Bunting still searching for his first victory of the campaign.
After his latest disappointing result saw Bunting lose out in the quarter-finals to Chris Dobey in Cardiff on Thursday night, Bunting took to social media to address his supporters in a heartfelt message.
"Absolutely gutted. So sorry to all who support me. Practiced so well tonight and unfortunately it just didn’t happen on the stage," begins the cult hero, who remains one of the most well supported players in the entire PDC. "I’ll keep giving it my all guys and keep believing."
Bunting also believes he knows the root cause of his problems. "I’m making myself so nervous because I care and want to perform to my best instead of just relaxing and letting it happen," he explains honestly. "See you all next week. I’ll work hard and make sure I’ll improve."
As it turns out, Bunting has a whole week to prepare for next week's Premier League Darts. The Bullet won't be active on the European Tour this weekend at the European Darts Trophy, so hopefully for Bunting, the rest will be able to refresh his mind.
