Jeffrey de Zwaan became the first player ever to win a PDC Tour Card through European Q-School on Thursday.
The 21 year-old lost his card at the end of 2017, but earned it back with an impressive performance in Hildesheim. The Dutchman began the day with 5-0 wins over Geert Nentjes, Igor Pacic and Helge Gross. He followed that with victories against Tomas Seyler, Davy Van Baelen, Robert Marijanovic and Gabriel Clemens. After taking an early lead in the final, de Zwaan was pegged back by Dirk van Duijvenbode. But he held on for a tense 5-4 win, adding his name to the Pro Tour field in the process.
De Zwaan made headlines with his performances in the Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals in 2017. The youngster was delighted to be back in the limelight with his early success.
"It's beautiful. I played the first three games and won 5-0 and was feeling really great, feeling comfortable," said de Zwaan.
"I was 3-0 in the final and he got back to 4-3 but I kept going. The Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals was a great run, not good enough to get my Tour Card, but I've now got it for the next two years."
