The
Josh Rock hype train keeps on rolling. The Northern Irishman is through to Round 3 on debut after a commanding whitewash victory over last year's quarter-finalist Callan Rydz at the
PDC World Darts Championship.
Despite the victory, Rock is still less than pleased with the overall standard of his performance. "Still not great," is how he describes it. "But at the same time it's hard for everybody to perform the way they want to up on that stage. We're all there for a reason, we all want to be World Champion so I need to wake up."
Many had predicted Rock vs Rydz to go the distance and perhaps be one of the ties of the round. In truth neither were at their best during at Rock admits, "I was expecting Callan to play a lot better than he did. But Callan missed far too many doubles," he says. "But at the same time, I missed far too many doubles. It was a really scrappy game. Luckily I had the guts to hit the doubles when I needed to."
After Christmas, Rock has the tough task of facing the two-time former World Championship semi-finalist Nathan Aspinall in round 3. The 21-year-old is confident and looking forward to the challenge. "That'll be a really good game. I know I beat him and I know I can do it again."
"There's going to be fireworks because I know Nathan is ready for that game and I'm going to be ready for that game," he continues. "I say it will be a very tight game. He's going to try and look for revenge from the European Championship and I'm going try not to let that happen."
