Stephen Bunting has opened up his account at the PDC World Darts Championship albeit 'The Bullet' survived a real scare as he was taken to a tie-break by Polish star Sebastian Bialecki. While Dimitri van den Bergh hobbled out in worrying signs for the Belgian.
Bunting won through 3-2 and Bialecki had fought back from two sets down to send it all the way before the fourth seed fought his way through to the finishing line just about. He will now face the cult hero of this afternoon in Nitin Kumar. Likely Dirk van Duijvenbode on paper would be a third round opponent.
It was an incredible start for Bunting who averaged a staggering 119.4 and hit four 180's as he breezed through the opener 3-1 and sent an early statement out. The second set wasn't as good but Bunting fired in an incredible 160 checkout en route to sealing the second set 3-1 again with 60% on the doubles.
But back came Bolt as he won three straight legs including. a 104 checkout to claim it. He levelled up from there surging 2-0 ahead on double eight. Bunting held with an 87 checkout but Bialecki finished the set with a 98 checkout to win it 3-1 and make it 2-2.

He looked to take the ascendancy as he went one away on double 16 with a 46 checkout for 3-2 before finally he jumped through the final hoop on double 18 to win 4-2 and claimed the match.

Beveridge sweeps struggling Dimitri van den Bergh

Darren Beveridge is also through to the second round as he swept a struggling Dimitri van den Bergh who averaged 80 and didn't look himself at all. He is now in serious danger of losing his Tour Card next year with his UK Open win set to come off in a few months time for instance.
Van den Bergh missed nine darts at doubles in the first set alone. 'Ice Cold' hit double eight to break throw. He held with ease on double 16 with Van den Bergh back at 136. Beveridge then broke again on double eight albeit with Van den Bergh missing his biggest smattering of darts at doubles during the opening set.
Van den Bergh finally got his first leg on the board after Beveridge had hit 72 to hold. Van den Bergh hit a 96 checkout with Beveridge waiting on double 16 in case The Dreammaker didn't hit it. Beveridge hit double 16 to hold before breaking for set two on double 20 with Van den Bergh waiting on double 16.

Set three saw Beveridge sweep it and seal the win. The Scot opened with a 65 checkout with again Van den Bergh getting the chance to seal a leg but he couldn't. The writing was on the wall as he missed 60 and Beveridge hit double eight. Beveridge broke to win on 68 on double two to claim the win. He now faces Madars Razma.
Wesley Plaisier opened the night by seeing off the Quarter-Finalist at the Grand Slam of Darts in Lukas Wenig in a 3-1 sets win. He hit 55% on the doubles for a place in Round Two. Plaisier stormed to the opening set in three straight legs with 75% on the doubles. Wenig hit back to get back on level terms to make it 1-1 but this proved to be the final set he won as Plaisier narrowly sealed the second set in a decider to go back in front with three 180's and 53% on the doubles. Plaisier sealed the win from there, he broke for an 84 checkout to go 2-1 up before he sealed the win on double nine.
Finally, James Hurrell also secured a place in the next round of the World Darts Championship. In the final match of the evening, the Englishman proved too strong for Stowe Buntz, winning 3-1 in sets. Buntz, competing in his third World Championship, did manage to win his first set at Alexandra Palace.
