With only fourteen tournaments played,
Luke Littler has made history again. The 19-year-old Englishman is now the player who needed the fewest
European Tour events to capture at least five titles. A stunning statistic that once again underscores his incredible talent. Littler broke the record previously held by
Michael van Gerwen.
Where many top players needed years to get to grips with the
European Tour, Littler needed only fourteen appearances to lift the trophy five times. That puts him well clear of some of the sport’s recent greats. Littler claimed his fifth European Tour title last weekend by defeating
Poland Darts Open finalist Gian van Veen 8-4.
Comparison with Van Gerwen
For comparison, Michael van Gerwen, the dominant force on the European Tour for years, needed 21 tournaments to land his fifth title. The Dutchman went on to become the record holder with an imposing tally of victories, but in his early years it took him considerably longer than Littler.
Luke Humphries (30 tournaments) and Peter Wright (48 tournaments) also required significantly more outings to hit this milestone. Gerwyn Price needed 57, while Michael Smith even required 77 appearances. Dave Chisnall completes the list with 83 tournaments for five titles.
Luke Littler won the Poland Darts Open last weekend
The fact that Littler now tops this statistic speaks volumes about his exceptional talent and mental resilience. The European Tour is known for its intense schedules and high averages, where players also regularly have to contend with hostile home crowds. Yet the young Englishman seems right at home on the continent, routinely posting 100+ averages and showing no fear in decisive moments.
The European Tour resumes on the weekend of March 13-15. The European Darts Trophy is scheduled in Göttingen. Nathan Aspinall defends his title there, after beating Ryan Joyce 8-4 in last year’s final. Littler, as last year, will not be present in Germany.
