Stephen Bunting has officially ended the 2025 Players Championship season as the most consistent player on the PDC ProTour, recording the highest yearly average of any player.
Over the course of 83 matches, The Bullet posted a remarkable 99.02 average, finishing ahead of some of darts’ biggest names and reaffirming his reputation as one of the circuit’s most reliable and dangerous performers.
It’s a milestone that puts Bunting in elite company. In recent years, the list of players to top the season’s averages reads like a who’s who of modern darts – Gary Anderson, Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright have all previously led the way. Now, it’s Bunting’s turn to sit at the top of the statistical leaderboard.

A season of elite consistency

The St Helens star has been a model of steadiness across 2025. He won two Players Championship titles, reached two further finals, and barely dropped below a 95 average in any event. In a season where the standard across the floor events has never been higher, Bunting’s reliability stood out.
That kind of sustained form doesn’t happen by accident. With 99.02 as his season-long mean, Bunting outperformed the 2024 benchmark set by Gary Anderson (100.29 over 76 matches), as well as previous high marks from Van Gerwen and Wright, who dominated the rankings between 2018 and 2021.

Previous highest yearly averages on the ProTour:

2024 – Gary Anderson (100.29)

2023 – Gary Anderson (99.43)

2022 – Michael van Gerwen (98.80)

2021 – Michael van Gerwen (99.32)

2020 – Peter Wright (99.86)

2019 – Michael van Gerwen (99.43)

2018 – Michael van Gerwen (100.56)

The challenge now: turning floor form into major glory

Bunting’s success this year wasn’t confined to the Players Championship circuit. He also impressed on the European Tour and World Series of Darts, showing his quality on multiple stages.
The one box still left to tick is a major title. After lifting the Masters trophy in 2024, the 38-year-old has proven he can win on the biggest stages – but he’ll be hungry to repeat that feat before the year is out.
With the Grand Slam of Darts, Players Championship Finals and World Darts Championship still to come, Bunting will have several golden chances to add another major to his CV – and cap off a season that already stands as one of his best.
If his ProTour numbers are anything to go by, The Bullet could be primed to hit the biggest targets of all before 2025 is done.
