While there was Belgian success including Stefaan Henderyck reaching the semi-finals amid a glut of German talents at PDC European Q-School on Day Two, one player is missing in Patrick Bulen.
Bulen who has played previously at the PDC World Darts Championship had actually sealed his spot in the Final Stage but is suspended after a crazy chair throwing incident during a defeat.
The 55-year-old known as 'The Pitbull' also formed the first-ever team at the World Cup of Darts featuring Rocco Maes and has a played not only at the World Masters but currently on the Challenge Tour so a player with pedigree of sorts.
Bulen advanced to the Final Stage with three points and a leg difference of +12 finishing 67th on the rankings. This placed him among the top 82 and 12 Quarter-Finalists eligible for the final stage. But after it was assumed that he had simply gone home that wasn't the case.
He saw off Felix Hein with a 92.78 average but in the Last 32, he faced Latvian Dmitry Zhukov and lost the final two legs. He missed multiple match darts meaning that Zhukov snatched the victory.
According to information reported by Vincent Van Genechten of Het Nieuwsblad, he took it even further a source told the paper as translated.
"Patrick Bulen was suspended for flipping the middle finger after his loss, calling the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation) a certain disease starting with 'C,' and kicking chairs across the hall," a source stated. "I often play against him in Belgian tournaments; he can be quite volatile."
Witnesses also witnessed physical altercations and so despite qualifying anyway, Bulen is not playing over these four days and will likely regret his actions in the cold light of day especially with Zhukov now on three points and in the running for a Tour Card.
Crazy story from Q-School. Patrick Bulen (55) was suspended after Day 2 of the first phase. The Belgian lost a game and went crazy, including calling the PDC "cancer" and throwing chairs around. 'The Pitbull' had qualifierd with 3pts...https://t.co/Y3ckEiAH28 @nieuwsbladsport
