In the run-up to the resumption of the Premier League Darts 2020 on August 25, Dartsnews looks back on the performances per player in the first six weeks of the competition. This time, Daryl Gurney is in the spotlight.
Daryl Gurney survived Judgment Night in his two previous
Premier League Darts appearances, but this year seems to be a difficult story. With only two points, Superchin
is currently in last place after six nights.
With a tournament average of 93.22, Gurney's average is significantly lower then the averages of his competitors. Form was simply missing at the start of the Premier League, although he suffered only one big defeat.
The Northern Irishman
lost 7-1 against Michael van Gerwen. His games against
Gary Anderson,
Michael Smith and
Glen Durrant were narrowly lost (7-5). He got a point against
Gerwyn Price and
Rob Cross. Certainly against Anderson and Cross there were good opportunities for a better result for the current world number seven.
However, that means Gurney is now in relegation concerns. With three games to go in the first league phase, he can actually only afford one more misstep. The two-time major winner will face challenger Chris Dobey, Nathan Aspinall and reigning world champion Peter Wright in his next three matches.
