Phil Taylor spoke at the recent Target Sports Stars Fishing Championship and is a fan of a potential seniors' tour and also he discussed the dominance of Michael van Gerwen.
Taylor said that it's a different game now with it being no crowd and that as well Van Gerwen has the added pressure on him now. "Michael (van Gerwen) was the favourite (for the World Matchplay) and he's got to get used to it. So has Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis and it's just a different game all together. It's not the game we're used to," said Taylor to
Online Darts.
"It's not just about darts anymore, Michael has got two young kids he's got to think about. He's got his wife to think about. So everything is added pressure for the lad; I wouldn't like to be a darts player now, not at this very moment because you don't know what you're going to bring home."
In terms of the previously alluded to Seniors' Tour, Taylor said he'd be up for playing the likes of Keith Deller, Dennis Priestley and John Lowe again: "I'd be straight there, I'd love to play the old fellas again. But I dare not lose, if I get beat then I've had it," he joked.
He also gave his thoughts on the PDC Women's Series and said that it's a good move from all sides with the potential to get female players inspired.
"It will be fantastic for the manufacturers like Target and other manufacturers to get the ladies involved and to show the ladies staying at home and looking after the children. Sometimes if they're working they can come home and have a game of darts.
It's good for your kids education as well. I get my grand kids involved in darts due to the mental arithmetic and they're really good at it now."
