Preview German Darts Championship 2023: Who will grab the final starting spots for the European Championship?

This weekend the German Darts Championship is on the program. The Halle 39 in Hildesheim, Germany, hosts the thirteenth Euro Tour tournament of the season from Oct. 13 to 15.
The tournament in Hildesheim is the last Euro Tour tournament of the year. As a result, there will be a fight not only for the final victory, but also for the last qualifying spots for the European Championship. The German Darts Championship has been on the annual calendar since the establishment of the European Tour in 2012. Only in 2021 did the event not take place because of the corona pandemic.
The first edition in 2012 was won by Phil Taylor. Subsequently, Dave Chisnall, Gary Anderson, Michael van Gerwen, Alan Norris, Peter Wright, Daryl Gurney and Devon Petersen also won the German Darts Championship. Van Gerwen captured his third title at this tournament last year and is thus the defending champion this weekend.

Who are competing in the German Darts Championship?

The field of participants for the German Darts Championship consists of 48 players. First of all, you have the top-16 of the placement list. That includes players such as Michael van Gerwen, Dirk van Duijvenbode, Danny Noppert, Luke Humphries, Dave Chisnall, Josh Rock, Rob Cross, Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall.
In addition, Gabriel Clemens and Ricardo Pietreczko were also added to the lineup as home players. The remaining thirty spots were distributed through various qualifying tournaments. Among others Chris Dobey, Jules van Dongen, Vincent van der Voort, James Wade, Danny Jansen, Gian van Veen, Stephen Bunting, Daryl Gurney, Jelle Klaasen and Jeffrey de Graaf qualified for this Euro Tour tournament.
The big absentee at this tournament is former world champion Gerwyn Price. The Welshman had originally signed up to participate, but later withdrew.

Where can I watch the German Darts Championship live?

UK subscribers who pay for PDCTV will receive it as part of their subscription. It is also shown on Viaplay including at times their Viaplay Xtra TV channel for free in the UK.
The first round will take place on Friday, while the top-16 seeded players will enter for the second round on Saturday. The third round will be played on Sunday afternoon, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals on Sunday night.

How much prize money is to be won?

During each Euro Tour tournament, £175,000 in prize money is distributed. All qualifiers are guaranteed £1,250, while the top-16 players on the German Darts Championship's placement list will receive £2,500 anyway. However, these 16 players must win their first game in the second round for the prize money to actually count toward the world rankings and other rankings.
Per victory, the prize money earned increases. For example, the finalists already receive a minimum of £12,000. The winner of the tournament goes home with the top prize of 30,000 pounds.

Battle for final spots for European Championship

The German Darts Championship is the last Euro Tour tournament of the season, which means that after this tournament the balance will be drawn. The top-32 of the Euro Tour Order of Merit will receive an invitation to the European Championship in Dortmund from Oct. 26 to 29.
The last qualifying spot is currently held by Steve Beaton. However, 'The Bronzed Adonis' is missing from Hildesheim. and number thirty Brendan Dolan is also absent. Number 31 Ricardo Pietreczko, however, is in attendance. Chris Dobey is the first pursuer. He is only 750 pounds behind Beaton and Pietreczko, and 1,250 pounds behind Dolan. If Dobey manages to win over Lee Evans in the first round on Friday, he will at least pass Beaton.
Other contenders are their way down the rankings. Dylan Slevin is 3,500 pounds behind and needs to make at least the quarterfinals. Alan Soutar, Ryan Joyce, Mickey Mansell, and Lee Evans need to make at least the last four in Hildesheim. Players such as Jules van Dongen, Scott Waites, Vincent van der Voort, and Jelle Klaasen even need to win the tournament.
