The 2023 PDC Women’s Series resumes this weekend, as the race for Women’s World Matchplay qualification reaches its climax in Germany! 🇩🇪 pdc.tv/news/2023/06/2…
Four tournaments will be played in Germany this weekend as part of the PDC Women's Series. This weekend is the last opportunity for the female professionals to qualify for the Women's World Matchplay. Which ladies will be allowed to travel to Blackpool after this weekend?
The third weekend of the 2023 PDC Women's Series will take place on 24 and 25 June at Halle 39, Hildesheim. Here, the top women's darts will compete for entry to the Women's World Matchplay, which starts on 23 July at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool. The second edition of this tournament, which was won by Fallon Sherrock last year, will consist of an eight-player field, meaning that the top eight on the Women's Series Order of Merit will qualify for this event.
Leading the Women's Series ranking are World Masters winner Beau Greaves and two-time world champion Mikuru Suzuki. At £18,000 and £9800 respectively, they are well ahead of the rest and are therefore both already assured of a debut at the Winter Gardens. Rhian O'Sullivan and Robyn Byrne, numbers 3 and 4 in the rankings respectively, are also already very well placed to debut at Blackpool.
Surprisingly, the next two ranking positions are held by reigning Matchplay champion Fallon Sherrock and four-time world champion Lisa Ashton, respectively. Both players have been a lot less dominant at this year's Women's Series tournaments than last year and will be keen to use the coming weekend to cement their qualifying positions for the Matchplay.
The finalists of the top eight are Aileen de Graaf (last year's runner-up) and Lorraine Winstanley (semi-finalist at the previous Matchplay). Dutch Noa-Lynn van Leuven, with £50 less than Winstanley, is just outside the top eight, but has good papers to still qualify for the tournament in Blackpool.
At the moment, the above players make up the top eight, but there could be some changes after the next four tournaments. A tournament win at the Women's Series earns £2,000 and a place as runner-up £1,000. This means that even lower-ranked players with a good run still have a chance to force qualification for the Matchplay. Apart from the Matchplay, players at the Women's Series can also qualify for the Grands Slam of Darts and the World Championship at the end of the year. At these tournaments, there is only room for the top two ranked players. In addition, the winner of the Women's World Matchplay also qualifies for the World Championship.
