Gerwyn Price is through to the third round of the 2022/23 PDC
World Darts Championship and will return after Christmas following a scare against Luke Woodhouse.
Price surged in the last set but had to come from a set down with Woodhouse putting up resistance at the start as he looked to dump out 'The Iceman' but crisis averted as the World Number One sealed a 3-1 sets win with a 92 average, two 180's and a high checkout of 150. Raymond van Barneveld could await next.
Woodhouse had a superb first set and with the crowd firmly against Price, the Bewdley ace averaged 105 as he took the opening set against the World Number One 3-1.
He started the second set with a break chance but busted on double 15 and Price held throw. Woodhouse got another go on 90 but couldn’t get a shot albeit left 52 which he pinned on double 16 at 1-1.
Price edged the next set with an 83 checkout to seal it in a decider but was still under severe pressure from Woodhouse. This pressure saw him hold to begin set three. Price hit back with a 13-darter on double 18.
Price missed multiple opportunities to break but Woodhouse couldn’t hit a 64 checkout missing two at double 20 and Price broke to go one away from a 2-1 sets lead which he pinned on double 10.
A 76 on the bull saw Price seal a 1-0 lead and he followed it with a 150 checkout and was one away from the win. Price missed two darts for the win but returned for double five.
