This included multiple 12-darters in a row and an 11-darter and was capped off with a 130 checkout to claim the 7-3 win with a 112.2 average.

While for Smith, it wasn't as straight forward for the St Helens ace as he edged past Jose de Sousa in a 7-5 victory. He hit a 98.3 average but had to survive a comeback from 6-4 up against 'The Special One'.

As the latter missed a chance at a 41 in the penultimate leg, Smith cleaned up pinning double 20 with the relief etched on his face.
