With three nights to go in
Premier League Darts, the play-offs are getting closer and closer.
Gerwyn Price and
Michael van Gerwen are already sure of a place on the finals night, but have something else to compete for.
The Welshman and the Dutchman face each other for the sixth time in this Premier League Darts on Thursday night. Three times Price won, and twice Van Gerwen was the best. Price also currently leads the league standings with 33 points, while Van Gerwen follows in second place with 29 points.
So with a win over 'Mighty Mike', 'The Iceman' can take an important step towards securing first place in the rankings in Manchester on Thursday. This could also be important ahead of the play-offs. The number one meets the number four on the final night, while the number two faces the number three.
Behind that duo, three players battle for the remaining two spots in the play-offs.
Michael Smith is in pole position with 23 points, but has yet to shake off
Nathan Aspinall (22 points) or
Jonny Clayton (19 points). Aspinall is the world champion's opponent on Thursday night.
Clayton will take on straggler
Peter Wright, who with nine points has no chance of making the play-offs.
Dimitri van den Bergh and
Chris Dobey battle it out in a mutual duel for their theoretical last chance, but even with a weekend title in Manchester, qualifying for the play-offs seems to be a difficult story for Van den Bergh and Dobey, as they are too far behind.
