Stephen Bunting survives Peter Wright fightback to win dramatic decider with Rob Cross completing quarter-final lineup at 2024 UK Open

The quarter-final lineup at the 2024 UK Open is complete in Minehead, with Rob Cross and Stephen Bunting becoming the final two names in the hat ahead of the upcoming draw for the last 8.

On the main stage, recent Masters winner, Stephen Bunting got off to a flying start against Peter Wright., racing into a 3-0 lead, hitting a brilliant 164 checkout on the way. Despite Wright getting one leg back, the opening session was undoubtedly Bunting's as the players headed off stage with the score 4-1 in favour of 'The Bullet'.

In the second session however, the roles had completely reversed as Wright stepped up his level whilst Bunting simultaneously dropped off slightly. But, after Wright missed a handful of darts for a level game at 5-5, Bunting punished to keep himself in front, 6-4 at the break.

Despite missing his big chance to get level, Wright refused to get too down and after the break immediately took the first two legs to pull back to level terms at 6-6. Having done all the hard work, Wright began to falter again though, allowing Bunting to regain control with a break of throw as he moved 8-6 clear, just two away from the win. After Bunting had moved one away, 'The Bullet' missed a dart at the bull for the match. Wright punished to save his skin and then took the next two to send the match to a decider. In a dramatic final leg it was Bunting who took it to move through to the last 8.

Over on stage 2, 'Voltage' Rob Cross was firing on all cylinders as he breezed past the talented Irish youngster, Keane Barry 10-4, averaging a touch below 97 in the process. Notably for the losing UK Open finalist in 2019, it's a fifth quarter-final appearance for Cross at this particular event.
