Steve Beaton keeps in shape with daily cycling and swimming: ''I know damn well I've got to keep myself fit to keep playing"

Steve Beaton is entering his last year as a professional dart player on the PDC circuit. The 59-year-old 'Bronzed Adonis' has pretty much done it all during his legendary career.

Over the years, Beaton has had to change his lifestyle quite a bit, he said in a wide-ranging interview with Dan Dawson for the PDC. ''I used to smoke. I packed up fifteen years, three months and two days back," he recalls. "That was just a bad habit with me and I know to this day, if I hadn't, I wouldn't be here now."

Meanwhile, the Englishman has now committed to a strict fitness regime to stay in tip-top condition. ''I know damn well I've got to keep myself fit to keep playing," he explains. "When I'm at home I'll cycle for 12-15 miles a day and then go swimming for 30-40 minutes and that's my morning done."

''I'll probably do that virtually every day if I'm at home and then obviously, I'm back on the darts again then," he concludes. "But yeah, I have to. It's the only way I fathom that I'm still doing it."
