Earlier this afternoon, the opening event of this weekend's
Development Tour was concluded with
Charlie Manby sealing the title defeating Owen Bates, a Tour Card holder and forerunner on the Development Tour.
Manby previously dazzled pinning a 130 average in a Development Tour tournament earlier this year but the 19-year-old backs it up with a first title. It was a 93 average in the final for Manby as he saw off Bates narrowly 5-4.
This after he defeated Beau Greaves who remains atop the Development Tour ranking still albeit she is being caught by Cam Crabtree. This being the penultimate weekend, it is very important for the future routes for those at the top including Greaves who decided against fully committing to the Challenge Tour seemingly as a way of going down the Development Tour route.
Manby also saw off another forerunner in Jamai van den Herik as well as Jack Drayton and Joshua Jones in the latter stages.
The Development Tour is the youth circuit of the PDC. This tour is open to players ages 16 through 23. Players who turn 24 during the season may continue to compete.
At each Development Tour tournament there is a prize pool of 15,000 pounds to be divided. With the prize money, a ranking is established. At the end of the season, the numbers one and two receive an invitation to the World Darts Championship, plus a Tour Card for 2026 and 2027. The ranking winner also gets to compete in the Grand Slam of Darts.
