The frustration is palpable right now for
Gerwyn Price. After yet another disappointing night in the
Premier League Darts, the former world champion vented on Instagram. His outburst typifies the striking dip in form he is showing specifically in this prestigious competition, while excelling on other stages.
Successful on the European Tour
Last weekend Price once again proved he belongs to the absolute world elite.
In Sindelfingen he was crowned winner of the European Darts Grand Prix 2026. With that victory, the Welshman made history: he became only the second player ever to claim ten titles on the European Tour. An impressive milestone that underlines his class once more.
Yet that success stands in sharp contrast to his recent outings in the
Premier League Darts. Over the past three league nights, Price went out in the opening round each time. In Rotterdam Luke Littler proved too strong, in Brighton Josh Rock came out on top, and in Liverpool he had to bow to Gian van Veen. That last defeat in particular seemed to hit hard.
On stage it was already clear that emotions were running high for “The Iceman.” Price tried to hide his frustration, but only managed that to a point. Shortly after, he decided to share his feelings on social media. “So frustrating. Two steps forward and twenty steps backwards after Premier League” he wrote on his Instagram stories, accompanied by several angry emojis.
Thanks to the crowd
Price still showed his professionalism. He took the time to thank the Liverpool crowd for their support. “Support was great as always. Thank you so much,” he added. It shows that despite his disappointment, he continues to value the connection with the fans.
Remarkably, despite his recent missteps, Price still sits third in the table. That says a lot about his strong performances earlier in the season. However, the gap to leaders Luke Littler and Jonny Clayton is beginning to grow. If he wants to remain a real factor in the race for the play-offs, he will need to latch back on quickly.
Gerwyn Price is currently third in the Premier League Darts
For Price, the key may lie in regaining his mental balance on the big stage. His form is clearly there, as his recent tournament win proves. If he can carry that through into the Premier League Darts, he can still force his way into the battle for the title. Until then, however, frustration remains a visible opponent.
