Van Duijvenbode injured wrist fist pumping at event during summer break: "I could not practice but I almost rid of it"

Dirk van Duijvenbode managed to qualify for the last sixteen of the Hungarian Darts Trophy on Saturday afternoon with a fine match against Chris Dobey. An average of 104 made it 6-3 for the Dutchman.

"Chris is always a tough opponent, it's never easy against him. Glad I just win it'', was Van Duijvenbode's first reaction to TOTO Dart Kings afterwards.

He then indicated that he was also struggling with some after-effects of a wrist injury, for which Van Duijvenbode gave a remarkable reason. ''Already three weeks, but it is at the end. I could not practice well, but I am almost rid of it. It happened in the summer break. It happened fist pumping and I went a bit too hard. Can happen."

"The summer break was also used to recharge the batteries a bit towards the autumn. Especially mentally. A few weeks off (from darts, ed.), but of course I am still working. I took two weeks off. After the last Pro Tours (early August, ed.) I went on holiday immediately.

Sunday afternoon 'Aubergenius' will play in the third round against Josh Rock, who is having his breakthrough year on the PDC circuit this year." It's a very good opponent'', agrees Van Duijvenbode. "But so am I. I think that boy will be in the top-32 of the world ranking next year, and maybe at the end of this year already. I think we both have to play well to want to win.''
