Michael van Gerwen is through to the
European Darts Grand Prix final after storming past Mensur Suljovic in a 7-1 win as he looks to add his first
European Tour title of the year.
Van Gerwen claimed victory with a 97 average, 7/11 on the doubles and a high checkout of 170. This was compared to a 95 average from 'The Gentle' with two 180's but the all important 1/11 on the doubles which meant if he took his chances, it could have been a different story against 'Mighty Mike'.
His next opponent will be a first time European Tour finalist in
Jose de Sousa who produced a stunning conclusion to his tie with Ian White, the defending champion.
De Sousa claimed it 7-6 in a decider with a 99.6 average. Stats wise, he finished on three 180's and 7/16 on the doubles compared to 6/9 from White who hit three ton plus checkouts including a high of 126.
It was a stunning 11-dart break from 'The Special One' which proved pivotal as he edged through against 'Diamond'. Can he go all the way or will it be a 33rd European Tour title for MVG?
