Veenstra defeats Brown on European Tour debut to set up clash with Price at Hungarian Darts Trophy

Richard Veenstra has reached the second round at the Hungarian Darts Trophy in Budapest. Flyers beat Keegan Brown 6-4 on his European Tour debut. Fellow Dutchman Geert Nentjes did not make it against Geert de Vos.

Veenstra came behind after the first leg, but with an 11-darter and a 64 finish the Dutchman took the lead. Brown failed to equalise in the eighth leg and Veenstra took a 5-3 lead on double 9. The former Lakeside semi-finalist then secured victory in the tenth leg via double 16.

For Veenstra a great challenge awaits in the second round of the Hungarian Darts Trophy on Saturday. He takes on world number one and world champion Gerwyn Price.

Nentjes played a creditable match against De Vos in terms of scoring, but failed on the finishes. Thirteen chances on the doubles were left unused by the Dutchman. From 1-1 his Belgian opponent ran out to 5-1 thanks to a stunning 161 finish. After Nentjes missed five chances to reduce the deficit to 5-3, De Vos finished the job on double 10. The Belgian will play Joe Cullen in the second round on Saturday.

The opening match of the tournament was won by William Borland. The Scot won 6-4 against Johan Engström and faces Mensur Suljovic in the last 32.
