A phenomenal
Gerwyn Price hit a nine-darter en route to a 6-5 victory over
Michael van Gerwen to reach the final in the third week of the
Premier League Darts.
Price produced his perfect leg in the fifth leg, which he started with a 177 and 180. He then threw out 144 for his second ever nine-darter on TV.
A 14-darter brought The Iceman to 4-2, but Van Gerwen fought back to 4-4 with a 116 finish and a 13-darter. Both players held throw, before Price had the advantage of starting the last leg.
The Welshman did that in fantastic fashion with two 180-scores. A second nine-darter out of reach, but with an 11-darter the victory went to Price, who averaged 109 compared to Van Gerwen's 106 average.
New format
The eight participants play sixteen times a tournament. The format is such that a player meets the other participants twice in a quarterfinal. During two weeks of play, in the eighth and sixteenth week, the draw is made on the basis of the points.
Points can be scored with results in the sixteen tournaments. A semi-final earns two points, a second place three points and a tournament win five points and a £10,000 bonus.
Based on these points the new Premier League Darts ranking is formed. The four best players advance to the Premier League Darts play-offs.
