James Wade's victory over
Peter Wright has put him through to the final during the third week of the
Premier League Darts in Belfast. Later in the evening The Machine will play Gerwyn Price for the week title.
Wade took the lead for the first time in the fifth leg by throwing a 12-darter in Wright's leg, but the Scot immediately broke back via double 12. Another break followed in the seventh leg after a 122 check-out by Wade. The Englishman then went 5-3 ahead with a 13-darter, before taking the win in the tenth leg on double 9.
Price earlier reached the final with a win over Michael van Gerwen in the first semi-final. The world number one also threw a nine-darter against the Dutchman.
New format
The eight participants play sixteen times a tournament. The format is such that a player meets the other participants twice in a quarterfinal. During two weeks of play, in the eighth and sixteenth week, the draw is made on the basis of the points.
Points can be scored with results in the sixteen tournaments. A semi-final earns two points, a second place three points and a tournament win five points and a £10,000 bonus.
Based on these points the new Premier League Darts ranking is formed. The four best players advance to the Premier League Darts play-offs.
