Dimitri van den Bergh raised the roof at the Winter Gardens as 'The Dreammaker' produced an incredible nine-dart finish en route to victory over Martin Schindler at the World Matchplay.
A game he wasn't favoured in, Van den Bergh showed everyone what he is capable of. But also admitted a slight vulnerability in that he only celebrated as wildly as he did as the confidence wasn't there.
"Disbelief. That's the only word I can say about the whole happening. As soon as I let it go I think if you watch it again, I think I'm already leaving the oche before it even hits the double 12. I think I was already walking. I'm sitting here as a perfectionist," said Van den Bergh post match.
"When I'm a very confident player, I don't need to show people how good I am. Today I was anything but confident. Today I was a battler, warrior. Today it was about getting down to business, it's first to 10 and even though I hit the nine-dart leg, it's first to 10. You haven't won the game yet. You've got to get out of this game."
Having a winning percentage of over 80% at the Winter Gardens, Van den Bergh said that it is a showcase of his whole year so far and returning to form when it matters most.
"It's not only about here. Just think about this year alone when it comes to majors. UK Open winner, Masters semi-final, World Cup semi-finals. So what am I doing? Winning. This year when it comes to majors, Dimi is showing what he can do. I just hope I can continue. But next game Jonny Clayton another man on fire, he only won the last ProTour. It didn't really seem difficult for him. He's finally getting back to the old Jonny."
"It ain't going to be easy, but what is going to be easy is trying to find my best game when I need to and I really hope I can find it in the next round."
