The 2024 World Seniors Darts Masters continues the Friday evening in Sunderland and the latest two names to book themselves a spot in the quarter-finals of the final WSDT major for 2024 are Martin Adams and Neil Duff.
In the opening match of the evening session, Adams, who is waiting to taste glory on the Seniors circuit, faced off against Chris Mason in a rematch of one of the all time great Lakeside encounters from back in 1999. On that occasion, Mason fought back from the dead, recovering from 4-1 and surviving nine missed match darts by 'Wolfie' to prevail. This time around however, there nowhere near the same kind of drama as Adams secured himself the 4-0 victory.
Although the sets score makes it seem a somewhat comfortable victory for Adams, in actual fact it was a lot closer than the 4-0 suggests. As was the case in the old World Masters format (set to be revived by the PDC in 2025), it's first to two legs wins the set this weekend in Sunderland. In all four of the sets played in this one, Mason got himself a leg on the board, but then couldn't snatch any of the four deciding legs, with Adams taking each set in 14, 18, 17 and 17 darts respectively.
Former WDF world champion Neil Duff has also progressed to the last 8 of this tournament. The Northern Irishman overcame the crowd favourite Daryl Fitton in his last 16 tie 4-1.
After Duff started strong, reeling off the first five legs without reply, Fitton began to fight back, winning set 4 to get back to 3-1 behind. Despite going 1-0 in set 5 though, he couldn't keep the momentum going and Duff regained control to seal the deal and a spot in the quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon.
