The quarter-final lineup at the 2024 World Seniors Darts Masters in Sunderland is now complete. The final two names to get themselves a spot in the last eight are John Henderson and Tony O'Shea.
Since his emergence on the WSDT, Henderson has been almost faultless. After being crowned World Seniors Champion and World Senior Matchplay Champion earlier this year, the loveable Scot is looking to make it a hat-trick on the over 50s circuit this weekend and got off to the perfect start against former Lakeside champion Scott Mitchell in the opening round.
Coming out of the blocks strong, Henderson reeled off the first five legs without reply, moving two sets and a leg up as a result. Mitchell though, proved he still had some fight left, bouncing back to take the next two legs and get himself a set on the board, halving his deficit in the process. Sadly for 'Scotty Dog' however, this did not signal the start of an epic comeback as Henderson re-asserted his dominance taking the next four legs in 19, 16, 16 and 15 darts to race through back to back sets and secure himself a 4-1 success.
As mentioned, completing the lineup for Saturday afternoon's quarter-finals is -. After the first set went all the way to a decider, Howson's scoring deserted him in the third and final leg, allowing O'Shea to take a comfortable 17 dart hold to move one set up. After racing through set 2 in back to back legs, the 'Silverback' then moved two sets clear. Howson though, has been one of the most consistent operators on the Seniors Tour since its inception and 'The Owl' began to fight back, taking four of the next five legs to level the score again at 2-2.
Although Howson looked the likely winner from there, especially as he moved a leg up in set 5, the momentum shifted once again in this topsy-turvy encounter as O'Shea regained control, roaring back to win set 5 and nudge back in front at 3-2. A brilliant 111 checkout then moved O'Shea to the brink and a few moments later he sealed victory with a 14 darter.
