Beau Greaves has just concluded the latest Women's Series weekend and will head back onto the ProTour tomorrow for the latest set of Players Championship tournaments in Leicester. But after a stellar year,
John Lowe MBE has himself called on the Doncaster darting dynamo to receive royal recognition also.
Lowe was one of only a few until recently to receive such an honour. In darts, it has now become more of an open field of play, with Luke Littler and Luke Humphries also receiving
MBE's as of late.
Does Lowe have a point after
Fallon Sherrock herself is perhaps the leading example of why Lowe's plea is valid as Sherrock received one after she became the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship after a huge gap following Trina Gulliver getting one in 2023. The ten-time World Champion at the time was only joined by Eric Bristow as having one with Keith Deller also recognised later on in 2024 for his charitable work.
Deta Hedman also received an OBE so it has gone very much from darts being snubbed in these types of honours to it becoming more of a common place. Greaves achievements have to be marvelled at with the 22-year-old winning three consecutive WDF World Darts Championship titles, she has won two Women's World Matchplay tournaments and won 114 matches on the spin on the
Women's Series, with 55 titles in all.
But perhaps her biggest achievement, even to her own standards, is that she won the Players Championship 11 earlier this month, becoming the first ever woman to do so, and has blazed a trail as the only woman currently on the ProTour playing to a standard never seen in the modern era by a female player.
Is it time for Greaves?
Now Lowe is calling for the attention to be thrust on Greaves and that royal ascent should be courted as amid the chatter about Luke Littler, 'Old Stoneface' sees another darting star that deserves the plaudits.
"I am delighted to pen this, while we constantly read about the Warrington Wonder Kid, Luke Littler, which cannot be avoided with the titles he keeps winning, and records he keeps braking, the PDC have made this possible, and now thanks to them we have a ladies series that is giving them entry into the major events, and they have their own Wonder Kid from Doncaster, Beau Greaves, at the age of 22 she has won 134 out of 135 matches on the ladies tour, before arriving at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester this weekend," he penned on
Facebook.
Beau Greaves is a true darting trailblazer.
"An astonishing achievement when you consider the quality of the players. Trina Gulliver, 10 times World Champion, Sherrock, Hedman, Winstanley, Ashton, just a few of the very best. This morning Beau's number of wins has increased after winning series 9 and 10. Beau Greaves is doing what Littler did for the sport, she is a phenomenal player of this generation, at the moment better than she thinks, how many players have achieved two nine dart legs at 22, and I mean everyone, male and female.
"Her aspiration is to play on the European Tour and qualify for a few Majors, in her own words "I love playing darts, so it's a bonus for me" while Littler is receiving recognition for the interest and growth in the sport, Beau Greaves is doing the very same, she is a Champion among Champions, I believe a trip to the Palace for recognition to our sport would be fitting."
