Former world champion Keith Deller honoured with MBE

Former world champion Keith Deller has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire). Deller is best known for his world title in 1983. In that year, he defeated Eric Bristow after a memorable final.

He was also a founding member of the PDC 30 years ago and played on the professional circuit until 2007. However, that is not what Deller is receiving his award for. He is receiving that award because of his charity work. He has raised huge sums of money for various charities, including more than £500,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

"It was an honour to be world champion and it's going to be an honour to receive the MBE," Deller told BBC Radio Suffolk. "I've had such a fantastic career and life, but for me helping people was very important and I want to keep doing that."

Deller's recognition comes six months after Fallon Sherrock also received an MBE. Bristow, John Lowe, and Trina Gulliver have also received this award in the past.
