Chris Dobey returned to the Premier League Darts lineup in 2025, and 'Hollywood' got off to an excellent start right away by reaching the final on the opening night of play in Belfast, where he lost 6-1 to Luke Humphries. This Thursday night, 'Hollywood' can expect a heroes welcome as he returns home to Newcastle.
Since the opening night, things have been much more difficult for the 34-year-old Englishman, with only one win in six matches. Tonight he takes on Humphries again in the quarter-finals of Night Eight in Newcastle.
Dobey, like many others over the course of the campaign so far, has been particularly impressed with the performances of Luke Littler. "The fact that he doesn't practice, that impresses everybody," Dobey explains to TalkSport. "He just sits there and is so relaxed. Then he goes up there and blows you off the board."
"He comes backstage then just stays so relaxed. He barely practices," continues the former Masters champion. "It is just the confidence with him, if he goes up there like that then he will win. I wish I had that confidence at his age, he has no fear and just does what he does, he is unbelievable."
However, there is no question of jealousy on Dobey's part; on the contrary, he has particular respect for his 18-year-old compatriot. "Just in the short space of since Littler came on the scene, how much he has brought to the sport," he explains. "Its unbelievable and he deserves all the credit he gets."
In the world rankings, Littler remains in second place for now, behind Luke Humphries. According to Dobey though, that's not the full reality. "He is probably the best player on the planet at the minute. He's been really good," Dobey concludes. "You have to give him credit where it is due. All these academies and young people in the sport are down to him so."
