Last weekend, the
World Cup of Darts took place in Frankfurt. The tournament, which was won by Welsh duo
Gerwyn Price and
Jonny Clayton, consisted entirely of pairs matches for the first time this year.
Only one team managed to throw an average above 100. That was Poland's
Krzysztof Ratajski and
Krzysztof Kciuk in their group match against Lithuania. Their average of 118.10 was immediately good for a world record. They combined to take over the top average from Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld, which stood at 117.88 since 2014.
Furthermore, it is particularly notable that Wales featured in the top five three times. For instance, Price and Clayton were responsible for averages of 99.97, 96.18 and 95.85.
Northern Ireland recorded the third-best average with 96.97, but were eliminated by France in the group stage. Belgium managed to produce averages above ninety in all their five matches; 94.37, 92.52, 92.25, 92.13 and 91.09 respectively. The Netherlands, who were in action with Danny Noppert and Dirk van Duijvenbode, lost 8-7 to Belgians Dimitri van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts in the second round despite an average of 93.20.
