The way
Luke Littler plays darts is going to cause darts to change, according to
Wayne Mardle. This prediction was made by 'Hawaii 501' after 'The Nuke' took the weekly title for the second consecutive Thursday night, yesterday in Manchester.
Littler captured the lead in the league standings by beating Michael van Gerwen (6-3), Nathan Aspinall (6-4) and Gerwyn Price (6-3) in succession. Littler's unpredictability caused Mardle to think differently about darts. One example was when Littler managed to complete a 131 checkout against Aspinall via treble 17 and two double tops.
''I have watched, played and been involved in darts for way too long,'' Mardle analysed on Sky Sports. ''Luke coming along and doing what he is doing has changed my opinion about how things should be done."
Mardle, who himself has competed in the Premier League four times in the past, then came up with a detailed explanation. "Darts is all about patterns but he doesn't care about patterns and goes his own way. He doesn't care if someone says 'don't do that','' Mardle states. "When someone is good enough to do that, you realise it is not a problem. He has opened my eyes. You don't need to stick to convention."
That way of darts is going to revolutionize the sport, according to Mardle. ''He is going to change the game by doing it. The kids and adults will learn from him. There are no negatives."
