Michael van Gerwen failed to win a matchday in
Premier League Darts for the fourth week in a row. 'Mighty Mike' went down immediately in the quarter-finals in Exeter.
Van Gerwen lost 6-3 to Luke Humphries. He got off to a particularly slow start and never got into the right rhythm afterwards. "That irritated me the whole match. It haunted me. The Treble 20 didn't run for one minute. And he didn't play great at all of course, fair is fair," Van Gerwen said to Viaplay.
However, the 34-year-old Dutchman could make history, as never before had anyone won four playing days in a row in Premier League Darts. "It just wasn't it tonight. And you can only blame yourself for that," he said.
Van Gerwen now travels on to Minehead, where the UK Open will be finished this weekend; "You also know there is a more important tournament at stake this weekend. So I have to be sharper. In the end, that's the main goal this week."
In the Premier League Darts standings, Van Gerwen does remain the overall leader, with six points ahead of his closest pursuers Luke Littler and Rob Cross.
