Robert Owen is just over a week away from participating in his first ever
PDC World Darts Championship, the Welshman spoke to 'TungstenTales' about him getting his
Tour card back and the fact that he's going to be playing at Alexandra Palace this month.
Although the 'Stackattack' has got himself his Tour card from the Challenge Tour he hasn't been as impressed with himself as you would think.
“To be
honest I was quite disappointed with only winning one out of the 24 Challenge
Tour events. I had another two finals where I lost them 5-3, I blew away chances
in them especially against Williams but it’s one of them things.”
“I didn’t
play very well in some of the events, the first weekend in Germany I didn’t
know what to expect it was my first time out there on the Challenge Tour… But I
felt I was very consistent on the Tour and I can’t complain with second place
because the World’s means the most to me.”
“People
know what I’m capable of with what I’ve done in the past... the bigger players
know what I can do too.”
Ahead of this years World Championships Owen think's he has nothing to lose and has the confidence that he has made a vast improvement over the last few years.
“There is
no pressure this year. I’m just going to go out there and show them what they
have been missing for the last two years.”
“I am by
far a better player than I was three years ago, consistency is massive. My 180
hitting and 140 hitting I’ve massively improved on that. By no means am I the
finished article yet.”
Robert Owen certainly isn't underestimating how special Alexandra Palace is going to be.
“Of all the
years I have fallen short It’s going to be special for me, I believe its
special for every player who plays in that tournament – It’s every players
dream”
