Darts Orakel who will provide Sky Sports with their data and stats for the upcoming PDC World Darts Championship provided an impressive statistic about the 2015 edition.
Phil Taylor threw an average of above 100 in every round during that World Darts Championship, up to and including the final. Yet 'The Power' lost in the World Cup final to Gary Anderson.
The 2015 World Darts Championship is thus the only edition in which a player who posted a 100+ average in every match up to and including the final, but still did not win the tournament. Taylor did manage this in 2012. This feat was later repeated by Michael van Gerwen (2017 and 2019).
