Dave Chisnall didn't do enough to qualify for the knockout stages of the
Grand Slam of Darts. After losing his opening two group games against Stephen Bunting and Peter Wright, 'Chizzy' did at least give himself a happy farewell from the tournament with a win over Stowe Buntz.
"I'm very disappointed. I played well in my first game but that was the only game I played well in," Chisnall reflected post-match to Online Darts. "Didn't play well there tonight but I got the win so yeah, just move on to the Players Championships now, get myself right for it."

Having lost to both Bunting and Wright in last-leg deciders, Chisnall can consider himself somewhat unfortunate to be going out. Despite that, 'Chizzy' won't be wasting any time reflecting on the 2023 Grand Slam of Darts. "Disappointment, that's the only thing I can take away from this," he explains glumly.
Although the win over Buntz was a mere consolation in terms of the Grand Slam of Darts, for Chisnall it was his first victory on TV since January. "I've not had any luck, I don't know what's going on in TV comps but I'll put it behind me. I'm not one of these sore losers who'll go on about it all the time. Now I've won a game on TV so I'm quite happy," he laughs. "I've had a good year on the floor and on the European Tour."
Ahead of the World Championships in December though, finally tasting victory on TV again could turn out to be big for Chisnall. "I wanted to get that win. I needed it for my own confidence."
