A dominant Michael Smith powered his way into a first World Grand Prix semi-final on Frdiay night courtesy of a 3-0 thrashing of Andrew Gilding.
"The scoreline was dominant but the actual game wasn't," said Smith, who has traditionally always struggled with the double-in-double-out format, in his post-match press conference. "I watched him play Gary Anderson, because he was on before me two days ago and he wasn't getting away with his first three. If Gary would have hit his finishes it would have been me and Anderson up there."
"You would have seeing my mind on that darts game not being on Rugby. It would have been a lot different because we have that little bit of chemistry where I don't want to lose to him and he doesn't want to lose to me."
In the semi-finals, Smith faces off against Gerwyn Price in a blockbuster of a tie. "It's not going to be straightforward, but for me I think this could have been the final!" Smith previews.
"I think if you look at my previous five or six years I've always had a
difficult August and September," he concludes. "But now being here, I'm starting to believe I can win it."
