The second round begins at the 2022
World Matchplay on Tuesday with four bumper ties set to take place at the Winter Gardens as the sweltering heatwave continues to take hold.
To start the evening is a contender for tie of the round as Rowby-John Rodriguez takes on
Dimitri van den Bergh. On debut, the Austrian dumped out Jonny Clayton on the opening night and will look for another scalp on Tuesday.
That of the former champion and last year's finalist in Van den Bergh who will look to double his Phil Taylor trophy tally and regain it after losing in the final to
Peter Wright last year.
Following that,
James Wade faces Nathan Aspinall. 'The Machine' was not at his best in his opener but as ever was steady and took his opportunities against debutant, Martin Lukeman. While for 'The Asp', he saw off Luke Humphries with the Stockport thrower pleased to prove pundits wrong who potentially saw 'Cool Hand Luke' as having a walk in the park but can he down the 2007 champion.
Third up is the defending champion as Peter Wright faces Krzysztof Ratajski. 'Snakebite' sees his only rival between him and glory being himself but 'The Polish Eagle' will have something to say about that. He impressed in his opener against Stephen Bunting and reached the semi-finals last year. A tie that has been seen so many times including in Ratajski's early days on the European Tour - it is Wright who holds the majority of the wins on their head to head. Will that be the same tonight?
While finally, it is a repeat of the Premier League final as
Michael van Gerwen faces
Joe Cullen. 'The Rockstar' missed a match dart against The Green Machine and will look to rewrite those wrongs in a match which usually delivers stupidly high quality and Cullen winning most of the time. With MVG producing his worst display ever at the World Matchplay in his opener, will there be an opening for Cullen or will the Dutchman find his form?
