Fallon Sherrock doesn't want to lose her head by all the attention leading up to her match against Mensur Suljovic in the second round of the
Grand Slam of Darts.
Sherrock made history again last Tuesday by becoming the first lady ever to qualify for the knockout stage at the Grand Slam of Darts. The 27-year-old from Milton Keynes beat Gabriel Clemens 5-3 with a roof-raising 170 finish.
This performance caused a stir in the British sports press. Earlier Sherrock reached the headlines by becoming the first lady ever to win a match at the 2020 PDC World Darts Championship. During that tournament she defeated Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic, and now she will meet the latter again.
Sherrock can provide another magical evening in the Aldersley Leisure Village on Thursday night, but she prefers to stay away from the peripheral issues as far as possible.
"It won't hit me until after the tournament'', said Sherrock. "I just put it to the back of my mind. My only focus is on the next game.''
''I don't get caught up in all the hype, I can't afford to get distracted by it. When I put my glasses on on stage I'm like superman, I just go into my 'darts zone'. Once the tournaments is over, then I will appreciate what I've done and feel proud of myself.''
Sherrock will therefore take on Suljovic on Thursday night, knowing that she beat The Gentle at the World Championship two years ago.
"I'm very excited about my next game, it will be special. It will be different to when I played Mensur at Ally Pally because it's a different format here.
"Who knows what's going to happen, but I'm going to keep my head down, focus and hopefully I can produce my best game."
