Stompé set to attempt to qualify for WDF World Championship: "It would be great to play on the Lakeside stage again"

In early December, the WDF World Open and the qualifying tournament for the World Championship at Lakeside will take place in Assen, the Netherlands. Co Stompé is one of the participants.

Earlier this year Stompé officially announced his retirement, but now he is going back on it. "At the moment I am doing some construction work at Schiphol Airport during the day and in the evening I train for about two hours. After all, I don't want to lose twice in the first round. It is also important that I have some match practice again, that is why I am playing some matches in the Super League again", says 'The Matchstick' to the Double Trouble Dartscast.

New nickname: Grandpa

The 59-year-old Stompé played twelve times at the BDO World Championships between 1996 and 2008. He also played five World Championships in the PDC.

"We'll see where we end up, the level at the WDF is a bit lower than at the PDC. It would be great to play on the Lakeside stage again. Maybe I will have to invent a new nickname, grandpa or something like that," Stompé laughs.
