Co Stompé has announced his full retirement from darts. The 58-year-old Dutchman no longer wants to take in the travelling need to play tournaments regularly.
Stompé was a top darting name for more than twenty years, first in the BDO and then in the PDC. In 2014 he returned to the BDO for a short while, but it was not a success with further forays at Q-School following which have been mainly utilised to have the option at the Challenge Tour with his son Co Stompé Jr also aiming to follow in his footsteps.
"Nowadays I sometimes play Superleague in the Netherlands, although that has been stopped since the beginning of March. But I don't play anymore tournaments anymore, so you can safely say that I am retired", Stompé said to NPO radio.
"I just can't afford the many trips and I don't feel like being away from home another thirty weekends a year," continues 'The Matchstick'. "Everyone says that it is such a wonderful life and that is also true when, for example, you travel to Australia for five weeks to play there. But there are also many locations where it is much less fun to stay."
