Van der Voort apologises to referee Kirk Bevins after incident during World Matchplay Quarter-Final defeat

Vincent van der Voort has apologised for his reaction to referee Kirk Bevins during his defeat to Glen Durrant in the Quarter-Finals of the World Matchplay on Friday night.

Van der Voort lost 18-16 to Durrant in the Quarter-Finals despite leading 10-5 and 12-8. He threw his dart underarm in frustration in the 22nd leg after missing a double.

Referee Kirk Bevins saw this and rejected the dart to the frustration of the Dutch Destroyer. The former UK Open finalist believed he rejected the dart due to stepping over the oche but that was not the case.

He took to Twitter after commenting on the incident post match and said that Bevins in reality was right.

"Having seen footage and spoken to people I need to apologise to Kirk the referee as I thought he complained that I stepped over the oche and this is why I reacted at end of the game. He actually complained that I threw the dart not correctly, which I now know," said the Dutchman on Twitter.

Also he wished good luck to Durrant in his semi-final against Dimitri van den Bergh on Saturday night. "He (Durrant) took advantage of my fall of concentration with the incident allowing him back into the game, for that he did well and best of luck in today’s game to him."
