Van der Voort on current state of darts after resigning with Winmau: "The amateur side needs a kick in the backside"

Since his best friend Michael van Gerwen signed with Winmau Darts, Vincent van der Voort joined him at the prominent darts manufacturer which has seen his form return in parts and sitting with Lee Huxtable, the technical director, he ran through his darts and how he looks for perfection with what he throws.

"When I start playing you don't have a lot and then all of a sudden you see all the developments. You want to test everything and your head goes crazy, there's too much choice so at one point I went back to my old darts and then we are going to build something new," said Van der Voort to Chris Murphy for Winmau.

"I'm a perfectionist so if something is a little bit off I think nah that's not good enough."

Known as 'Fast Vinnie' previously, he is one of the fastest arrowsmiths in the sport but has had to not only change his speed but also his throwing stance due to back problems and age of course.

"I was faster 10/15 years ago but it's always been about rhythm. If I take more time, I've got more time to think and that's not good.

"I stand in a different place, I used to be a little bit left to the board and now I'm to the right of the board so my back is straight and it doesn't hurt as much anymore. I should have gone to the doctors sooner, I thought this will go away and at one point it's too far."

But as well as speaking about himself, he discussed the current state of darts as he is well known for not holding back on his opinions.

"The JDC and Development Tour is amazing but I think the amateur side needs a kick in the backside. It's not right at the moment, that is a worrying part and it's good that different people are looking into it. There's a lot of work to do."

As well as on his darting future with no retirement set as of yet and it is all about enjoyment.

"I'm not someone who says I want to be the top this or that. I am going to give it 100% and I'm just looking forward to playing and competing and I want to see what's left in the tank."
