Vincent van der Voort will play his first match at the 2023 PDC World Darts Championship on Thursday night. In a second-round match, 'The Dutch Destroyer' will play against Cameron Menzies, who proved too strong for Diogo Portela on Saturday night, 3-1.
The eccentric Scot was watched intently by Van der Voort from the Viaplay studio: ''You see everything about him in this match going by. He's crazy sometimes with brilliant moments. You never know what you'll get with him. Here he had a lot of bad moments, but I think I also like him better than Portela."
The man from Purmerend already lost to his upcoming opponent once earlier this year, so he will be wary when the darters will cross swords again. Asked about dealing with Menzies' style of play, the number 28 of the world responds soberly: ''You know who you are up against, so you can prepare yourself. If that is still an issue in the match you can only blame yourself".
Menzies himself expressed his respect for Van der Voort, letting him know: ''If I play like today I'm going to go off against him anyway. He's not number 28 in the world for nothing and I really need to play much better than today."
